Wind burn
What you see
- Leaves near a fan are clawed, dry or torn
- Only the side facing the fan is affected
Why it happens
A fan blowing hard straight on the same leaves dries them out.
What to do
- Point fans across or above the canopy rather than straight at plants
- Use a gentle oscillating setting
Next time
- Move the air gently everywhere rather than hard on one spot
Easy to confuse with
- Too much nitrogen (the claw): Leaves are very dark green, almost shiny
- Heat stress: Leaves fold upwards along the middle like a taco
