Leggy, stretched seedlings
What you see
- Long thin stems that fall over
- Big gaps between the first leaves
- Seedlings lean towards a window
Why it happens
Too little light. Seedlings stretch to find it.
What to do
- Give more light or lower the light (at a gentle setting)
- Bury the long stem deeper when you transplant; cannabis grows roots along the buried stem
- Support them with a stick until they firm up
Next time
- Start seedlings under a proper light, not on a windowsill
- A small fan makes stems stronger
Easy to confuse with
- Overwatering: The whole plant droops with leaves that feel firm and swollen, not limp
- Damping off: A seedling suddenly falls over
Not sure?
Take a photo of the seedling from the side and ask the Grow Doctor, or send it to the grow companion on Telegram.
