Foxtailing buds
What you see
- Small spires of new calyxes stack on top of the buds
- Buds look uneven, like towers on top of towers
- Usually at the top of the plant, close to the light
Why it happens
Mostly caused by heat and too much light at the top in late flower. Some sativa leaning strains foxtail naturally.
What to do
- Lower canopy temperature and light intensity
- If it is genetic and the plant is healthy, nothing needs fixing
Next time
- Keep the canopy cool in the last weeks of flower
Easy to confuse with
- Light burn and light bleaching: The top leaves closest to the light turn yellow or white while their veins stay green
- Heat stress: Leaves fold upwards along the middle like a taco
