Bud rot (botrytis)
What you see
- A bud has brown, dry or slimy parts inside
- A single sugar leaf turns yellow and dies out of a healthy bud
- Grey fuzz appears in the bud
Why it happens
Botrytis grows inside dense buds in humid, still air. It spreads fast and the spores travel to other buds.
What to do
- Cut out the infected bud with a margin, wearing gloves, and put it straight into a bag
- Lower humidity to 40 to 45 percent and add air movement
- Check every big bud daily from now on
- Never eat or smoke rotten material
Next time
- Keep flower humidity under 50 percent
- Defoliate so air reaches the inside of the canopy
Easy to confuse with
- Air too humid: Water drops on leaves or walls in the morning
- Caterpillars and bud worms: Holes eaten in leaves
Not sure?
Take a photo of the bud, opened gently where it looks off and ask the Grow Doctor, or send it to the grow companion on Telegram.
