Whiteflies
What you see
- Small white flying insects that rise when you touch the plant
- Eggs and larvae under the leaves
- Sticky residue and yellowing leaves
Why it happens
Whiteflies suck sap and spread fast in warm rooms.
What to do
- Hang yellow sticky traps
- Spray insecticidal soap or neem in veg on the undersides
- Predatory insects (Encarsia formosa) work well in closed rooms
Next time
- Quarantine new plants
- Check leaf undersides weekly
Easy to confuse with
- Thrips: Silvery, shiny scratches on leaves
- Aphids: Clusters of small soft green, black or white insects under leaves and on new shoots
Not sure?
Take a photo of the underside of a leaf and ask the Grow Doctor, or send it to the grow companion on Telegram.
