Root aphids
What you see
- Plants stall and yellow without a clear reason
- Small round insects with a white waxy coating on the roots and at the pot edge
- Winged adults on sticky traps
Why it happens
They feed on roots and are often confused with nutrient problems.
What to do
- Drench with beneficial nematodes or Beauveria bassiana
- Repot healthy plants in fresh medium if you can
Next time
- Quarantine new plants
- Use clean, fresh medium
Easy to confuse with
- Nitrogen deficiency: Lower, older leaves turn pale green, then evenly yellow from the tip inwards
- Fungus gnats: Small black flies around the soil surface
