Plant problems · Handling and timing · Any stage · Usually mild
Transplant shock
What you see
- The plant droops for a day or two after repotting
- Growth pauses for a few days
Why it happens
Roots were disturbed or exposed to light and air during the move.
What to do
- Water lightly right after the move and keep the light gentle for a day
- Do not feed strongly for a few days
- Recovery takes 2 to 5 days
Next time
- Repot when the root ball holds together
- Move the whole root ball in one piece
Easy to confuse with
- Overwatering: The whole plant droops with leaves that feel firm and swollen, not limp
- Underwatering: Leaves hang limp and soft, like they have no strength
