What you see
- De plant hangt zelfs als het medium nat is
- Wortels zijn bruin, slijmerig en stinken in plaats van wit en fris
- Bladeren vergeelen en de plant gaat snel achteruit
- In hydro, wordt het water troebel of bruin
Why it happens
Pythium en vergelijkbare organismen vallen wortels aan die in warm, stil, zuurstofarm water zitten. Overbewatering en reservoirs boven ongeveer 22 C zijn de klassieke oorzaken.
What to do
- In aarde, stop met wateren tot de pot licht is en verbeter de drainage
- In hydro, koel de reservoir tot 18 tot 20 C, voeg lucht toe, verander het water en maak het systeem schoon
- Nuttige microben (Bacillus of Trichoderma producten) helpen gezonde wortels om weer de overhand te nemen
- Snij papperige wortels weg, maar alleen als je nog gezonde witte wortels over ziet

Easy to confuse with
- Overbewatering: The whole plant droops with leaves that feel firm and swollen, not limp
- Fusarium- verwelking: Leaves yellow and wilt on one side or one branch first
